Some lawyers have stated that Akindele is now an ex-convict, following her sentencing by an Ogba Magistrate Court 1. Recall that she was arrested by the Lagos State police Command for defying the social distancing order after she organised a house party. She and her husband, JJC Skills were arraigned on a one-count Criminal Charge for flouting the Social Distance Directive, contrary to Regulations 8 and 17 of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Regulations, 2020. The regulations has a jail term of one month or a hundred thousand naira (N100,000) fine or both for persons found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lock down order. She and her husband pleaded guilty to the one-count charge. In her judgment, Mrs. Aje Afunwa of the Magistrates’ Court ordered them to pay a fine of N100,000 each. The magistrate also ordered both of them to be isolated.
Barrister Paul Edeh stated that she was arraigned on a criminal charge, hence she is an ex-convict. He also stated that they can appeal the ruling of the court. She actually did not understand the extent or implication of a conviction. The sad reality about this Funke Akindele drama is that just like that, she is now a convicted criminal. Applying for a foreign Visa tomorrow maybe difficult for her or if she wants to contest for any political office.
She now has a criminal record which is a big taint and it may deny her so many opportunities. With the criminal conviction, top brands may not come close to her to do business with her going forward. This should serve as a lesson to the younger generation to do better. Young people must be guided and never allow a lapse of judgment to ruin their bright future. Many of her friends have throw their weight behind her.
