Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management & Social Development. Sadiya Umar Farouq, Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nigeria. DG NEMA AVM Muhammadu Alhaji Muhammed (Rtd.) paid a courtesy call on HE Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. They briefed His Excellency Yahaya Bello on their mission to the state to flag off the distribution of fertilizers approved by Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari under the Emergency Agricultural Intervention program for farmers affected by conflicts and flood in 2018.
Sadiya Umar Farouq highlighted that this special intervention is comprised of seeds/seedlings, agrochemicals, knapsack sprayers and fertilizers. The intervention was approved in 2019 & the implementation commenced with verification of affected farmers which was closely followed by the distribution of farm inputs and seeds. The distribution of fertilizer is the final phase of Federal Government assistance to the farmers to enable them recover from the losses suffered in order to alleviate poverty and empower them.
She appealed to the beneficiaries to make the best use of the fertilizer. The Honorable minister also used the opportunity to draw the attention of His Excellency’s to the yearly Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) released by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency on 24th January 2020. She also highlighted the Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) released by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) on the 28th May 2020. The Annual Flood Outlook has predicted flood in over 10 LGAs of Kogi State
