The Senate Chief Whip and 2023 presidential hopeful, Orji Uzor-Kalu, has said that if Nigerians make him president, he will build a 20th century economy.
Speaking on a program on Umuahia-based radio station monitored by The Sun, Mr Uzor-Kalu said he is capable of doing the job.
“Yes, if you give me the presidency, why not, I will take. I am capable of doing the job,” he said.
“The problem is who is capable of doing the job. For now, I am focusing on my constituency; there is a lot of job to be done.
“If you give me an opportunity, I will like to go back to the Senate for a second term, but if the people of Nigeria want me to be president, they will show the hand.
“I can do the job. I can build a 20th-century economy for our people.”
There are reports that Mr Uzor-Kalu had kick-started his consultations last week when he paid a private visit to former Heads of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, Niger State capital.
During the visit, Mr Uzor-Kalu declared that he would serve as Nigeria’s President if given the opportunity by the electorate.
He had said:
“I am still in the Senate, and I will seek for re-election into the senate but if our people want me to serve as President I will not hesitate.”
He said that there was no zoning in the APC constitution. More so, he added that any person in the party can contest for the position of the President.
“Zoning is not a constitutional matter in APC, any person can contest any post in APC.”
He also spoke on the issue of insecurity in Nigeria. The senator alleged that there was sabotage in the country’s security system.
“It seems that there are a lot of sabotage in our security system.”
