SERAP condemns the demolition of a hotel in Rivers State and threatens to sue Wike for acting illegally. The Rivers state government has brought down a hotel in ELeme, Rivers State. The Hotel was found to be operating after the state had issued an executive order for all the Hotels to close down as means of curbing covid-19.
In response to this act, SERAP a nonprofit, nonpartisan, legal & advocacy org. devoted to promoting transparency, accountability & respect for socio-economic rights in Nigeria. Has come out to condemn the act, describing it as EXECUTIVE RASCALITY.
They intend to take legal action against Governor Wike and his government and hold him accountable as the demolition of Prodest Hotel is forced evictions and in violation of article 11 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and other human rights treaties to which Nigeria is a state party.
